Sometimes, the best kind of getaways are the ones that feel like a treasure hunt...and Thassos turned out to be exactly that.
Along with two close friends, one of them a photographer, we packed our bags, our cameras, and our shared hunger for adventure, and set off for a week on this gem of a Greek island. From the moment we arrived, it felt like a playground of light, cliffs, secret coves, and winding roads begging to be explored.
Our days were anything but lazy. We were on a mission, or actually, many missions. Each sunrise and sunset became a quest: find the perfect viewpoint, the hidden beach, the lonely olive grove glowing in golden light. We’d plan each day around where the sun would hit the land, chase it across the island, and sometimes, even argue (in the best way) about where to go next. It was a photographer’s dream...and our cameras barely got a rest.
But one night took the crown.
We decided to sleep on Marble Beach, that stunning place with the turquoise water and soft white stones. Why? Because we wanted to catch the sunrise right there, with no chance of missing the moment. The only problem? You’re technically not supposed to sleep there.
But we did.
Armed with blankets, snacks, and the stubborn determination of two photographers who refuse to miss the light, we made ourselves comfortable under the stars. It was both hilarious and beautiful—tiptoeing around like fugitives with camera gear, whispering when we laughed, hoping no one would kick us out before dawn. But the night was kind, and the morning rewarded us with one of the most peaceful, breathtaking sunrises we’d ever seen.
Waves lapped gently, the beach turned from blue-grey to soft peach, and everything else faded into silence as we stood there, witnessing it.
That week in Thassos was a collection of moments just like that...wild, spontaneous, glowing with wonder. A week of chasing light, catching it, and sometimes… sneaking in a little rule-breaking just to hold onto it longer.
