An island of fire and flowers

La Palma, an island of contrasts... moody skies and colorful blooms, solitude and joy, life and death.

It holds within it a raw, dramatic volcanic landscape, yet bursts with colorful, vibrant flowers in every corner. It’s a place where opposites not only coexist, but dance together in harmony. I visited La Palma during a weird time of my life. At first, I didn’t realize it, but the island reflected a lot of the emotions I was living. Its energy, its wildness, its unpredictability—they all reflected something I was feeling inside. It offered me a space to face myself, to embrace both my fire and my fragility.

I was grateful to my dear friend Anna Chytilová, who came up with the idea for this trip and invited me to join her, bringing such good energy along.

I’m also incredibly grateful for the warmth and hospitality of Anna Holle (Amanita) at Eco-Finca Miraflores. When I arrived, it truly felt like I arrived in paradise. This eco-friendly retreat has amazing views of the mountains, the ocean, and even Tenerife’s Teide volcano, features spaces for yoga, meditation, and stargazing, emphasizes sustainability, providing volcano-filtered mountain water, natural toiletries and recycled water for its gardens. It’s an ideal destination for nature lovers and I can’t recommend it enough.

This island is home to unique flowers like the viola palmensis, which I could admire on the volcanic slopes. It’s also one of the most volcanically active islands in the Canaries, with dramatic lava landscapes shaped by eruptions.

Even though I had a lot of remote work to manage, I still found moments to have hikes through breathtaking landscapes and moments behind the lens capturing the quiet majesty of the mountains.

The reality was, this year has been very hard on me. And those feelings didn’t vanish the moment I arrived... nor did I expect them to. I didn’t come to escape, but to stay with myself in a space that felt more supportive. And La Palma, with its fire and flowers, its wild beauty and dramatic contrasts, gave me exactly that.
