Colorful mountains and dreamy landscapes

From the Atacama Desert, we crossed into Argentina...and that’s really when the adventures began.

We rented a car in Chile and drove across the border into Jujuy, crossing in Paso de Jama at about 4,200 meters. I still remember standing in line at border control, starting to feel sick from the altitude...light-headed, dizzy, and just hoping we could get through quickly.

But once we entered Argentina, everything changed. The landscapes were spectacular. We drove through Jujuy province, surrounded by wild colors and dramatic mountains. One of the most striking sights was the Cerro de los Siete Colores (Hill of Seven Colors), layers of red, green, yellow, and violet stacked into the rock like nature’s own painting.

I couldn’t stop taking photos, especially of the cactus forests, which fascinated me. 🌵 Their towering, spiky presence in the middle of this vast, colorful landscape was fascinating.

We tried to be careful with the altitude, arranging our accommodations to help us acclimatize, but luck wasn’t always on our side. Near the town of San Antonio de los Cobres, not far from Jujuy, we ran into car trouble... we had a flat tire, and we had to figure everything out in a town that felt a bit like the Wild West.

That night, we ended up sleeping at around 3,800 meters, and for my body, it was too much, too fast. I felt terrible...nauseous, restless, like my whole system was off. But by morning, I started to feel better, and we hit the road again, heading back in the direction of Chile.

Looking back, it was all part of the adventure. The altitude, the unexpected challenges, the raw beauty, the colors, the open roads.
