Movie‑Scene Magic in Alabama Hills

I convinced Jerry to join me for a photography mission in Alabama Hills, a hidden gem about three hours north of Los Angeles. Nestled near Lone Pine and lying in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada, these hills are famous for their sculpted rock formations, desert-like colors, and cinematic history, backdrops for hundreds of movies, from Gladiator to Iron Man.

We spent the day driving along Movie Flat Road, jumping out at every scenic pull‑off. We hiked the iconic Mobius Arch Loop Trail and paused to photograph the natural arch framing distant Mount Whitney. Everywhere we went, strange rock shapes stood against the sky.. rounded boulders, hidden windows, and even Heart Arch...a photographer’s dream

The light shifted as the sun began to fall, casting dramatic shadows across the orange-rock landscape. It felt surreal, like walking through another planet. We captured long exposures of the rocks, silhouetted under pastel skies, feeling a playful awe at every turn.

That day turned out to be one of my favorite escapes in California...an ideal mix of driving adventure, geology, movie‑set nostalgia, and stunning photography moments with a great friend by my side.
