During the pandemic, when borders were uncertain and travel was limited, I found myself staying in Germany longer than expected. It was a strange time... but for my birthday, I wanted to do something special, something that would still bring me joy and a sense of exploration. So I took a one-day trip to the Black Forest, to visit the symbolic source of the Danube River.
The Danube begins where two small rivers, the Breg and the Brigach, meet in the town of Donaueschingen. There, in a peaceful spot surrounded by trees and classic architecture, stands a beautiful little fountain that symbolizes the start of one of Europe’s greatest rivers. It might not look dramatic at first glance, but there was something poetic about being there... knowing that such a powerful river starts so quietly.
